Accidents

The following list is not exhaustive but may assist employers in determining if a risk assessment allows a particular truck to be operated without the use of a restraint system. Out of necessity here we can only give general guidelines as premises and circumstances vary but the main considerations should be along the following lines:

  • Is the working area smooth and level?
  • Is there an enforceable speed restriction of no more than 4 mph which is equivalent to a brisk walking pace?
  • Will the truck be used only for that job?
  • Has the potential for operator error been included in the assessment?
  • Has the risk assessment been recorded?
  • Has it been signed by both the operator(s) and the employer?
  • Is there a warning sign on the truck? (An example is shown below)
